Colorado State Patrol investigators arrested a man suspected of causing a fatal hit-and-run accident on E-470. Roberto Ulisses Galvan, 24, of Aurora, is accused of causing the fatal three-car accident about 11 p.m.
Galvan was speeding northbound in a black BMW before losing control of the vehicle near the South Gartrell Road exit and rear-ending a Toyota 4-Runner. The Toyota, driven by Patrick Poole, 52, was forced into the median, the patrol said, where it went airborne into southbound lanes of traffic and landed on a Honda Accord driven by Jeffery Frieman, 39, of Highlands Ranch.
Frieman was pronounced dead at the scene. Poole was taken to Swedish Medical Center with serious injuries and was listed in good condition. His daughter, Monica Poole, 22, was treated for minor injuries and released.
Galvan was arrested after a brief stalemate with state patrol deputies the morning following the accident at his home, spokesman Ron Watkins said. Galvan refused to surrender to officers who attempted to contact him at his home and by telephone after following a trail of debris and witness accounts to his house and seeing his badly damaged BMW in the garage, Watkins said.
