Teen's Car Struck By Semitrailer, Two Injured

November 30, 2005

Two women were taken to the hospital after they were involved in a two-vehicle accident on Monday in West Grand Junction.

The accident occurred at about 7:49 a.m. at the intersection of G and 23. A semitrailer collided with the car injuring a 19-year-old woman, said a spokesman from the Grand Junction Police Department.

The 19-year-old was taken to the hospital with internal injuries. The other passenger, a 17-year-old female, was also taken to the hospital but her condition or her injuries were not disclosed.

The driver was headed north on 23 Road when the accident occurred. He did not suffer any injuries in the collision.

According to police reports, the car with the two females had stopped at the stop sign but then pulled into the intersection and into the path of the struck. The girls were headed west on G Street.

The truck made contact with the girl's Toyota on the driver's side. Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to free the driver from the car.

Police did not reveal if the two females had been wearing their seatbelts.

Police are still trying to determine if there were any additional factors that contributed to the accident.
