Two Drivers Killed In E-470 Crash

November 18, 2005

E-470 remained was closed east of South Parker Road after an evening rush-hour crash left two motorists dead.

Colorado State Patrol troopers were forced to shut down the toll road in both directions for several hours so they could investigate the accident and allow crews time to clear the debris that was strewn over a large area of the highway. 'It's a pretty horrific crash,' said Trooper Eric Wynn, a CSP spokesman.

The wreck occurred a little after 5 p.m. on E-470 between South Parker and Gartrell roads. A Jeep and a Toyota 4-Runner were traveling southwest on the toll road when they collided, Wynn said. The Toyota driver lost control and his sport utility vehicle rolled into the median hurling the motorist from the vehicle. The driver was dead at the scene. The Toyota continued to roll and landed on top of another SUV heading northeast on the toll road, Wynn said. The male driver of that vehicle was killed. Firefighters were still working into the evening to free his body from the wreckage.

Neither driver was identified. Investigators do not think there were passengers in either vehicle. Wynn said the driver of the Jeep, who remained at the scene, was interviewed by troopers.
