A seven year-old girl was riding an all terrain vehicle on Tuesday when she was involved in a rollover accident. Rebecca Means was taken to the hospital where she was treated for head injuries but she was pronounced dead on Wednesday.
Means was riding a Polaris 700 ATV in the 500 Block of E. Street in Penrose with her uncle.
The two had come to a stop and the uncle had gotten off the ATV. Means pulled on the throttle causing the ATV to accelerate suddenly and rollover.
The ATV rolled onto Means and caused serious head injuries, according to a spokesman from the Fremont County Coroner.
The girl was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs but doctors were unable to save her from the head injuries.
The coroner has decided that an autopsy will not be necessary for the girl.
